Domainsite is a new challenger on the registrar playfield offering low domain prices, especially for .com domains. They also provide a very low price domain registration basic option where you don’t get the full specs of a full domain registration, but get the essential: name servers configuration access and full whois info. Their interface is simple and user-friendly, offer a vast selection of cctlds and very cheap whois proxy. IDN compatible.

1and1 offers very low price on domains (especially .com), free private domain registration and a free 2GB mailbox with each domain. Flexibility and full dns management. Their interface is functional and fast. Site-building tools and simple site submission also available. Not IDN compatible. You can also get up to 5 FREE domains when you sign up for a hosting package.
